Rohan Lal

Rohan is a lawyer in the Family Law Team who also regularly assists clients with commercial matters and dispute resolution. He is an experienced lawyer and advocate who brings extensive experience to OMB Solicitors and their clients.

Prior to practising in Australia, Rohan built a substantial litigation practice in New Zealand, acting in complex civil, family, and criminal matters, some of which attracted media attention. His experience appearing in Court and navigating high-stakes disputes has given him a strong understanding of the importance of preparation, strategy and decisive advocacy.

Rohan’s family law experience encompasses complex relationship property matters, including the division of assets involving multiple entities and sophisticated ownership structures; parenting and childcare matters including parenting and custody disputes; Binding Financial Agreements; and domestic and family violence matters.

He is warm, approachable and takes a pragmatic approach to every matter. He understands that family law disputes are deeply personal and that, wherever possible, achieving a practical resolution is the best way forward. Rohan works closely with his clients to understand their circumstances and objectives, identify the issues that matter most, and develop a clear strategy to achieve them in a cost-effective manner.

Where a negotiated resolution is not possible, Rohan is a fierce and determined advocate bringing his extensive courtroom experience to bear in protecting his client’s interests.

Rohan holds a Master of Laws (Applied Law) from the College of Law, majoring in Family Law and Criminal Law. He was also awarded a Graduate Fellowship in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement at a postgraduate level.

Outside of work Rohan is an avid practitioner of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). He has trained and competed in Kickboxing, MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling for many years, winning a number of championships and medals.
